HOW TO ACCESS YOUR INHERITANCE IN GOD.
We have an inheritance in God.
There is an inheritance we should access but many of us live like beggars, not sons, only a few of us can walk into this inheritance.
The famous Apostle Paul was praying for the church in Ephesus and he made striking prayer points that left me puzzled for a long.
I searched the scripture looking for this inheritance, so I could lay hold on them and demand for them.
While I found many things that accrue to the believer in the Bible, I didn’t see any scripture that speaks of individual inheritance.
I only saw corporate inheritance which is what accrues to everyone in the family. It is like the basic stuff everyone should access which includes.
-
Life – the scripture tells us in many places about the life of God being ours.
John 10:10
“10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” NIV
-
Good health – God doesn’t like sickness in any way. He doesn’t and he has made provision to ensure we live in health. The famous scripture on this is Isaiah 53:5
“But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds, we are healed.” NIV
3 John 2
“2 Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” NIV
-
Persecution – persecution is part of the believer’s package. It is not when you are persecuted for doing bad things but when people persecute you for Christ’s sake.
2 Corinthians 12:10
“10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong” NIV
-
The Holy Spirit – The Holy Spirit is the deposit God made in us that assures us of our inheritance.
Ephesians 1:14
“14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.” NIV
-
Protection – weapons will be fashioned but none of them will prosper.
Isaiah 54:17
“17 no weapon forged against you will prevail,
and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
and this is their vindication from me,”
declares the Lord.” NIV
-
Deliverance – God has already delivered according to Colossians 1:13
“13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” NIV
-
Angels – Angels are always on guard
Psalm 91:11
“11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;” NIV
-
Prosperity – God wants us to prosper
Psalm 35:27
“27 May those who delight in my vindication
shout for joy and gladness;
may they always say, “The Lord be exalted,
who delights in the well-being of his servant.” NIV
-
Safety – God cares about our safety as he says in Proverbs 18:10
“ is brother to one who destroys.
10 The name of the Lord is a fortified tower;
the righteous run to it and are safe.” NIV
All of these are things that accrue to every believer. I knew in my heart that there are things we should access as individuals aside from the basic things that everyone has.
I also referenced Proverbs 12:11
“Those who work their land will have abundant food,
but those who chase fantasies have no sense.” NIV
This scripture talks about an individual land. I saw other references to us having land to cultivate just like Adam was given land.
I began to question myself about my land and I didn’t find any just like I knew it wasn’t a physical land.
This worried me for a long time until I listened to a seasoned man of God – Derek Prince.
He spoke on accessing God’s best.
I realized that I was right to have believed in a personal land which is an inheritance we all have individually.
HOW THEN DO I ACCESS THIS INHERITANCE?
Apostle Paul gave us a clue in Ephesians 1:14
“14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.” NIV
A look at this scripture in another translation will help us understand it better.
Ephesians 1:11 – 14
“11 In him we were also chosen,[e] having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,
12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.
13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,
14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.
So, the Holy Spirit is the deposit we have to guarantee our inheritance.
He is the first package in our inheritance which guarantees that we get other parts of the inheritance.
The Message translation puts it this way
13-14 It’s in Christ that you, once you heard the truth and believed it (this Message of your salvation), found yourselves home free—signed, sealed, and delivered by the Holy Spirit. This down payment from God is the first installment of what’s coming, a reminder that we’ll get everything God has planned for us, a praising and glorious life. MSG
He is the down payment.
I want to show you that we can only access the other part of the inheritance through the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 2:9
“9 However, as it is written:
“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”[b]—
the things God has prepared for those who love him—
10 These are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit within them? In the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.
13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.[c] NIV
There are things God has prepared for us which are our inheritance and the vehicle through which we will know them is the Holy Spirit.
Anyone who doesn’t have the Holy Spirit has no inheritance in God. At least if he does, he doesn’t even know.
This is why the first gift God gives us after joining his life is the Holy Spirit because everything from then onwards depends on the Holy Spirit.
I have been able to establish that to walk into our inheritance we need the Holy Spirit to lead us by hand.
However, a lot of people even with the presence of the Holy Spirit will still miss out on their inheritance.
WHY?
They do not seek him.
Having the Holy Spirit is not enough, we have to do the following.
- Seek the Holy Spirit – To understand why we need to seek him, use this link to learn about it.
- Stir Him up – we have to also stir him up as this scripture explicitly tells us
1 Timothy 2:6 – 7
“6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.” NIV
This means that having the Holy Spirit doesn’t automatically do the job, you have to pray in the Spirit by speaking in tongues.
When we pray, our minds are unfruitful as our mental activities are shut down, then our spirit can receive directly from God.
1 Corinthians 14:14
“14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. “ NIV
The question then becomes, when was the last time you prayed in tongues?
That is one easy way to access what is our inheritance in God.
-
Do not grieve him
Ephesians 4:30
“30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” NIV
-
Obey him – If the Holy Spirit lives in you and you do not listen to him, you will not be able to access your inheritance as a son.
Romans 8:14
“14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” NIV
The Bible also says that the Holy Spirit leads us into all truth.
John 16:13
“13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. “ NIV
He will not tell you the entire truth at once, rather he will lead you into all truth.
But you have to be a follower to be led.
Thank you.
