“Eve – Her Story: Insights and Relevance for Today’s World”

Eve

The Beginning…

From the beginning, Eve was the wife of Adam. Adam was the first man God made in this civilization.

The story of Adam and Eve can be found in the first five chapters of Genesis.

All creation was ready before man showed up on the scene, man is the last of all God’s creation.

When man arrived, he was saddled with the responsibility of naming animals and tending the garden.

Is the man still naming animals and tending gardens? We will find out soon!

Why did God create the heavens and the earth?

The heaven and the earth existed and went null and void, we will not bother with the reason of the first creation.

Genesis 1:1-2

“In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.

And the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep”.

Notice it was the earth that became null and void not the heaven. This reveals to us that the heaven and the earth weren’t created null and void, something happened to earth that made it null and void.

Heaven was and has always been in shape.

God wanted to make use of this fallow space. He wanted to occupy it again.

WHY?

He wants a set of people He would commune with willingly.

People who could choose to be with him or not.

We can get a glimpse of this in two ways.

Firstly, from the statement of treason of Satan before He was cast down to earth as captured by Isaiah the prophet.

Lucifer wanted to be like God but he went about it the wrong way because he had no right to want something out of his jurisdiction. He also wanted to dethrone God and take over His territory.

Isaiah 14:12 – 14

12How you have fallen from heaven,
morning star, son of the dawn!
You have been cast down to the earth,
you who once laid low the nations!
13 You said in your heart,
    “I will ascend to the heavens;
I will raise my throne
    above the stars of God;
I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,
on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon.[a]
14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High.”
15 But you are brought down to the realm of the dead,
to the depths of the pit

LUCIFER’S DESIRE

The very thing fallen Lucifer wanted, God made man to be – like Him.

Not above God but exactly like Him.

We cannot be like God and not have a jurisdiction of influence and rulership.

God is a king and every king has a kingdom, God had to recreate the desolate earth, so man can have a kingdom where he rules.

This is why God is called the King of Kings – Revelations 17:14.

Satan was fighting for God’s kingdom but when God made man, He gave him a kingdom to govern.

Secondly, God made man to extend the kingdom of God. Man is not to govern his kingdom according to what he wants; he is to govern Earth like God governs Heaven.

God is to colonize man and his earth with heaven.

There are other reasons why God made man. However, we will limit our study to these two.

PS: Lucifer said in his heart, be mindful of what you say in your heart, the spirit realm hears our thoughts, not our words.

This is why even the dumb can communicate because we all have thoughts.

WHO IS EVE?

A quick look at who Eve is…

A close look at Eve would make us question if she was an afterthought, as we have thought her to be.

Eve was not an afterthought, she is part of the plan…

The following truths point to her being part of the original plan.

  1. God is a God of purpose

“God made everything with a place and purpose; even the wicked are included – but for judgment.”

Proverbs 16:4 (MSG)

Even as He told Jeremiah in Jeremiah 1:5 that he was born to be a prophet.

  1. God is sovereign

I form light and create darkness; I make well-being and create calamity; I am the LORD, who does all these things. “Shower, O heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain down righteousness; let the earth open, that salvation and righteousness may bear fruit; let the earth cause them both to sprout; I the LORD have created it. Woe to him who strives with him and who formed him, a pot among earthen pots! Does the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ or ‘Your work has no handles’?”

Isaiah 45:7 – 9 (ESV).

Having established the above, I want to tell you that Eve was never an afterthought. The woman who would bear children to fill the earth? Nay, the female folk isn’t a mistake.

WHO THEN IS EVE?

Eve is man!

I do not just mean that Eve is the female- man.

That is true.

Eve is a man(both male and female).

God doesn’t do things without showing us a glimpse of what He is doing.

The Old Testament is a shadow of the new, many of what we see in the Old Testament were accomplished in the New Testament.

Colossians 2:16 – 17

16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink or about a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath.

17 These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ” ESV

We also see Jesus quoting Isaiah 61 in Luke 4:16-22, where He said the Spirit of the Lord is upon me.

Even other apostles like Paul quoted the Old Testament.

HOW GOD IS SEEN

Romans 1:20

20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been perceived, ever since the creation of the world,[g] in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.” ESV.

So, God reveals His nature through creation.

A quick look at what played out in the account of creation shows us that Eve represents man while Adam represents God.

The union of Adam and Eve is representative of the union of God with man.

CREATING AND MAKING

Let us look closely at Genesis.

In Genesis 1, we have the creation account while in Genesis 2, we have the making of creation.

Creation is the calling of something into existence, making is the physical manifestation of what is existing.

Many things exist that have not manifested.

After God created the earth, Jesus Christ came and made the earth.

Remember, the scriptures do not mince words, you will always see “creator” and “maker”  in scripture, just like you would see “Lord” and “God” together in a verse, it is not repetition, they mean different things.

There is a creation and a making.

Genesis 2:4 – 9

These are the generations
of the heavens and the earth when they were created,
in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.

When no bush of the field[a] was yet in the land[b] and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up—for the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground,

and a mist[c] was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground—

then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed.

And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

So, there was a creation and a making. Man was created last but man was made first.

Hope it is clear, we are making progress.

In the creation of man, male and female he made them…

Genesis 1:27

“So God created man in his image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” ESV

But when he made man, he made the man with the female man trapped inside him

Genesis 2:7

Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.”

Would we say still that the female gender is an afterthought?

God knew what He was doing and He did it to illustrate something to us – Marriage.

MARRIAGE

Genesis 2:

18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for[e] him.”

19 Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed[f] every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.

20 The man gave names to all livestock and the birds of the heavens and every beast of the field. But for Adam[g] there was not found a helper fit for him.

21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh.

22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made[h] into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 Then the man said,

“This at last is bone of my bones
    and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man.”[i]

24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.”

GOD WAS ALONE IN HIS CALIBRE

The first statement in the chapter wasn’t a statement for the man, the male-man represented God and that shows the statement of God.

It is not good for God to be alone, God has angels, hosts, elders, etc but these are His servants. He wanted a race that willingly serve Him and one to whom he could extend His kingdom rule.

So, God made man as a helper fit for Him. Fit for Him says the type of material with which we were made and God was displaying this through man – what He is doing.

THE SEARCH

Remember, man manifested on earth before animals though animals and other beings were created before man.

God then formed these animals and brought them to man to see what he would call them.

The naming of the animals wasn’t just about naming, a search was going on!

Because after Adam had named them all, there was no helper fit for him. This shows that God created these animals looking for a helper fit for Him and none of them was fit for Him.

The sleep of Adam is symbolic of the brooding of the Spirit before the creation of the earth.

He formed Eve and brought her to him, watch what Adam said…

“This at last is bone of my bones
    and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man.”

Verse 23

Bone here is the inner man which is not seen, the skeletal man which is typical of the image of God and flesh here represents that which is seen, pointing to the likeness of God.

The bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh says is the same as “the image and likeness which is what God made man with.”

Eve represents Man!

Adam represents God!

Help has been found and then the sole purpose of creation was instituted – marriage.

’24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.’

God left all that matters to Him to be one Spirit with His bride – man.

THE BRIDE OF CHRIST

All through the scriptures, you will see man referred to as the bride of Christ.

A man whose role is played by Eve(woman), asked to submit to Adam(man) as unto the Lord and the man(Jesus) asked to love His wife Eve(man) as Christ died for her.

SUMMARY

Apostle Paul summarized everything we have been studying with these scriptures.

“Wives, submit to your husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.

Husbands love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way, husbands should love their wives as their bodies.

He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body.

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.”

Ephesians 5:22- 23.

If God institutes marriage as a form of relationship with us, then marriage is the highest kind of relationship there is.

No wonder it gets all the buzz and kicks.
